Billy Earl Martin

1957

Owen County

Seven-year-old Billy Earl Martin vanished on the evening of August 10, 1957, from his neighborhood in Brazil, IN. He was last seen on Colfax Street near his home, and despite immediate concern from his family, no trace of Billy was ever found. Early investigative efforts focused on Harry A. Higgins, a man who had recently moved into the Martin home after losing his job. Harry was the last person to see Billy alive around 4:00 pm the day he disappeared. Although investigators extensively questioned him and conducted massive searches of the area, no evidence was discovered nor were any arrests made. Billy’s family has never given up hope for some kind of closure even after all this time. The Brazil Police Department continues to consider this case open, and a memorial stone in Calcutta Cemetery honors the forever memory of Billy Earl Martin.
