MitV Cold Case Files:
Indiana
Gloria Ann Hedden
1980
Vigo County
On July 10, 1980, Gloria Ann Hedden, a 29-year-old married mother of two, was reported missing in Terre Haute, IN. She worked the overnight shift as a mail handler for the United States Postal Service and often finished her shift at the main post office branch near Indiana State University, where she was pursuing a master’s degree. Her husband reported her missing after finding her car in a parking lot between 7th and 8th Streets, with no sign of Gloria. Two days later, her body was found in the Wabash River by two fishermen. Her hands and feet were bound by a cable that was weighed down by railroad irons. The location of where her body was found was directly across from the Federal Corrections Complex just south of Terre Haute. This led investigators to believe she was placed in the river near to that spot, as her body did not appear to have traveled far. An autopsy determined that Gloria died from asphyxia due to a crushed larynx, confirming she had been murdered. While investigators have not publicly identified a suspect, some individuals close to Gloria have expressed concerns about her husband playing a role in her death. Despite suspicions and theories, no arrests have been made. The Vigo County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate this case and considers it open.
