Lauren Spierer

2011

Monroe County

On June 3, 2011, 20-year-old Lauren Spierer, a sophomore at Indiana University majoring in textile merchandising, disappeared after a night out with friends in Bloomington, Indiana. She had spent the evening visiting multiple local bars and a friend's house. The last confirmed sighting of Lauren was reported by Jay Rosenbaum, one of the friends she had been with that night. He stated that he watched Lauren walk south on College Avenue around 4:30 a.m., barefoot and without her phone, keys, or identification. Lauren’s boyfriend reported her missing later that day after discovering her phone had been left behind at one of the bars. To make matters worse, Lauren suffered from a heart condition that could be fatal without her medication. In the days following her disappearance, several men who had interactions with Lauren that night obtained legal counsel and refused to cooperate with Bloomington PD. Despite all the media attention, large-scale searches, and years of investigative work, no arrests had been made, nor had Lauren been located. The case is still considered open, and any information can be directed to the Bloomington Police Department.
