Michael Dean Wilkey

1975

Vigo County

Michael Dean Wilkey, son of Raymond and Fairie Wilkey, was just 17 years old when he was shot and killed during a robbery. A student at South Vigo High School, Michael also worked at the 500 Platolene Service Station near the intersection of Indiana 46 and Interstate 70. On August 28, 1975, he was shot six times during a robbery at the station. He was discovered shortly before 10 p.m., and investigators believe the crime occurred between 9:15 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. At the time, authorities considered the possibility that Michael’s murder was connected to a series of recent robbery‑homicides in the area. Despite extensive investigation, no suspects or credible leads were ever identified. Michael’s case remains unsolved, and investigators continue to seek information that could bring closure to his family.

  • A current investigative agency is unknown, but at the time of the crime, the Indiana State Police and the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office were leading the investigation. Anyone with information can submit a tip to Crime Stoppers at 1‑800‑222‑8477.
