Tonya Pickett & Richard Mustard

1998

Clay County

On November 18, 1988, Cheryl Pickett returned to her home in Brazil, IN, and discovered the bodies of her daughter, 16‑year‑old Tonya Pickett, and her husband, 32‑year‑old Richard Mustard. Both were found with gunshot wounds to the head. Tonya was a high school student with her whole life ahead of her, and Richard was a father who had spoken with his son just hours before being killed. In over 30 years, investigators have not identified any suspects nor come any closer to solving the case. The case remains open, and the families of Tonya and Richard continue to hope that new information will lead to an arrest. Tips or information, no matter how small they may seem, should be directed to the Indiana State Police.
